Bollywood's efforts to maintain sanctity in the movie due to this piracy issue have been dealt yet another blow, as Sikandar, one of the most awaited films of the year, was leaked online well ahead of its official theatrical release. Starring Salman Khan, the movie was supposed to be released on March 30, 2025. Sadly, even before it could make an appearance in the theaters, pirated versions started surfacing on illegal download sites, creating utter dismay for filmmakers and audiences alike.
As per various reports, unauthorized copies of Sikandar were uploaded to Torrent sites and were circulated in Telegram groups. Though this leak cannot be traced exactly, the film industry experts suggest that it might have slipped from a post-production copy or an advance screening event.
Bollywood has repeatedly suffered at the hands of pirates. Pathaan and Jawan were other films that were leaked during their respective releases and had a major impact on first-day collections.
The leak of Sikandar could affect revenues badly for the producers and distributors. Piracy has long troubled the entertainment industry and has damaged every production, weaker theatrical experience, and enjoyment of fans and audiences.
Producers and legal advisers are busy trying to delete pirated links and take legal action against the culprits. However, once a film enters the online space, stopping further circulation becomes a gargantuan task.
Amidst the leakage, the production crew advised the audience to watch Sikandar only in theaters and not to aid piracy in any way. The actors and crew further took to various social media platforms to appeal to fans to support their hard work by watching the film in the intended way.
"We have put our heart and soul into making Sikandar. To see it, be stolen just like that, is heart-wrenching for us. We urge our audience to say no to piracy and watch the film in cinemas to keep the industry alive."
If you’re a die-hard Salman fan (or just someone who loves a good action flick), the best way to show love is to catch Sikander where it belongs—on the big screen.
The production office has lodged complaints against unknown persons for unauthorized distribution following the leak. The cybercrime unit has been alerted, and government agencies are tracing the IP addresses used for the first leakage.
Also, the Indian laws under the Copyright Act strictly prohibit movie piracy; those who will be found guilty will have to face heavy fines and imprisonment. However, in spite of strict implementations, the growing trend of piracy remains a concern.
Although technology has promoted convenient access to entertainment, piracy is one of the greatest threats to the film industry. It involves some financial losses and devaluation of every single second of work spent by actors, directors, and everyone involved in filmmaking.
As fans, it is our duty to support cinema by watching films on legal channels. If piracy is prevalent, it will discourage the filmmakers to invest in big projects, which will eventually start reflecting on the quality of films we get to see.
So, what’s your take? Are you waiting for the official release, or has the leak got you curious? Either way, Sikander is proving it’s a movie that can stir up a storm—on screen and off!
